Robert J. Higgins

OCONOMOWOC - Robert J. Higgins, 79, of Oconomowoc died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at his home. He was born in Milwaukee on Nov. 2, 1920, the son of Andrew Joseph Higgins and Helen Elizabeth Callahan.

Robert was a graduate of St. Jerome School, Oconomowoc High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Journalism. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a reporter and photographer for the Waukesha Freeman, the Oconomowoc Enterprise and Focus newspaper. Robert was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Oconomowoc, the Shamrock Club and the Oconomowoc American Legion Post #91. Robert also accompanied the Oconomowoc American Legion Band on many trips, including the 1959 Rose Bowl.

He is survived by his niece, Susie Wing of Seattle, Wash.; his nephews, Ted (Gaye) Wing of Rochester Hills, Mich., Tim (Betty) Wing of Belfair, Wash., Dan Wing of Everett, Wash., and Paul (Debbie) Wing of Shelton, Wash. He is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Wing.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 211 S. Main St., Oconomowoc; the Rev. Edward Monroe, CSSR, will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church from 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Milwaukee.

Memorials to the St. Jerome Building Fund or the Irish Cultural & Heritage Center, 2133 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, are appreciated.
