William O. Wegner

WAUKESHA - Longtime Waukesha resident and businessman William O. Wegner died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999. He was one of four children born to the late William and Laura (Schwantes) Wegner on Nov. 3, 1909.

Mr. Wegner graduated from Antigo High School in 1928. He owned and operated the Mer-Mil Service Station on St. Paul and Wisconsin avenues from 1940 to 1950. In 1952, he built and started the Sunset West Shopping Center, which he owned at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church since 1930 and formerly served on the church council.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, who he married on June 26, 1936, Ernestine E. (nee Torrison)) Wegner; by their daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Larry Nichol of Waukesha, and Rhonda and James Hartwig of Janesville; four grandchildren, Krista Hartig and Kassie (Carl) Carver of Waukesha, Greg Hartwig of Milwaukee, and Jeff Hartwig of Janesville; two great-grandchildren, Brenna Nwadike and Kyle Carver of Waukesha. He is further survived by his sister, Ruby Zirkel of Appleton; and his brother, Morris (Virginia) Wegner of Deerbrook. Other relatives and friends also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Amos Wegner, in 1931.

Friends may call on Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 300 Carroll Street. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Theodore Romberg officiating. Entombment will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery. Memorials to St. Luke's Lutheran Church are appreciated.
