Melinda M. 'Lindy’ Alston

WAUKESHA Ð Melinda M. "Lindy" Alston (nee Blakeslee) of Waukesha died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999. She was born Dec. 7, 1911, in Marion, Iowa, and was raised in Milwaukee and West Allis.

Melinda was a registered nurse, graduating from Milwaukee Hospital Passavant. She was a member of Byron Kilbourn Chapter #195 Order of Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi, and was the Guardian Treasurer of Job’s Daughters’ Bethel #10 in Waukesha. She taught knitting for 10 years at the Waukesha YWCA and Waukesha County Technical College, and was the winner of the national afghan contest. Melinda was known for her active participation in the Waukesha Civic Theatre. She was interested in crafts and gave generously of her time and skills.

Melinda was the beloved wife of James Alston for 59 years, whom she married Aug. 7, 1940. She was the proud mother of Nancy, William and Lucinda. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alexander (Kim), Jennifer (Tim), Christopher, Nicholas and Genevieve.

A memorial service for Melinda will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 E. Broadway, Waukesha. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial to the charity of your choice.
