Margaret Pugh

WAUKESHA - Longtime Waukesha resident Margaret Pugh passed away Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Linden Grove Health Care Center at the age of 78. She was born in Waupaca on Aug. 15, 1921, to Emmett and Mary (nee Bonertz) La Haie. Mrs. Pugh was a 1938 graduate of Waupaca High School and a 1942 graduate of Carroll College. She was employed at the YWCA of Waukesha from 1970 until her retirement in 1987, where she was very active in the Encore Breast Cancer Survivors Group. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she taught CCD classes for developmentally disabled children, and she especially enjoyed playing bridge.

Survivors include her loving husband of 12 years, John Pugh; her children, Jane Sheehan of Madison, Barbara Demming of Ashland, Mary Ellen Busche of Davenport, Iowa, Martha Demming of Milwaukee, Susan Lawrence of Annandale, Va., Sarah (Lloyd) Gjelsten of Libertyville, Ill., Elizabeth (Tony) Adrian of Portland, Ore., Daniel (Diane) Pugh of Waukesha, Nik Pugh of Pewaukee, Robert (Sharon) Pugh, David (Carol) Pugh and Laura (Brian) Pugh Collins, all of Waukesha; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and her brothers and sister-in-law, John La Haie of Juneau, Alaska, and Paul (Trevelyn) La Haie of Peoria, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George R. Demming, in 1986 after 42 years of marriage, and also by a brother, Robert La Haie and sister, Esther Sossong.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church; the Revs. Michael Newman and William Humphreys will officiate. A reception will follow at St. Mary’s Community Room. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery in Waupaca. Memorials to the YWCA of Waukesha or to a charity of the donor’s choice are appreciated.
