Dorothy A. Tweeden (nee Pierce)

Dorothy A. Tweeden, 91, of Oconomowoc and formerly of Okauchee, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc.

She was born Dec. 3, 1913, in Elm Grove, to Henry Pierce and Mary Rauen Pierce.

She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Fred) Preussler, Mary (John) Calkins and Linda (Roger) Carlson, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her friends at the YMCA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John.

She and her husband owned and operated Tweeden's store in Okauchee. Later Dorothy worked at Foot So Port Shoe factory, Dickten Maasch and the U.S. Post Office.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Zion Episcopal Church. She was very active in the Okauchee community helping to start up the PTA, the blood bank, the Salvation Army, the TOPS Club and the fire department auxiliary. She was an active member of Zion Church, the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital Volunteers and the Oconomowoc YMCA. She was honored as a Jefferson Award Nominee for volunteer community services and won the Giraffe Award in 1999.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Zion Episcopal Church. Visitation will proceed the funeral from 9 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the church. The Rev. Thad Butcher will officiate with burial at LaBelle Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Zion Episcopal Church, the Oconomowoc Historical Society or the YMCA are appreciated.
