James Everett ‘Jim’ Blackstone

July 28, 1949 - Dec. 4, 2004

James E. "Jim" Blackstone, 55, of Rhinelander, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at his home. He was born July 28, 1949, in Waukesha, the son of Herbert Lee and Jesse Ann (nee Baird) Blackstone.

Jim attended Waukesha South High School and continued his education at Milton College where he received his degree in broad field social studies. He went on to get his master’s degree in special education in August 1976 from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Jim married the former Deb Pierson on Aug. 9, 1980, in Waukesha. They moved to Rhinelander in 1982 for Jim to begin teaching at Rhinelander High School and to start a family.

Jim always enjoyed theater and was involved in plays at the congregational church, where he was a member. For a time, he was also a member of the community band, the Nicolet Male Chorus and the Masonic Temple. Most recently, Jim was part of the new charter school. In his spare time, he enjoyed walking and showshoeing.

He is survived by his wife, Deb; three children, Breanna at St. Norbert College, Seth at UW-Whitewater and Desi, at home; his siblings, Nancy Schmitt of Exton, Pa., Barbara Blackstone of Portland, Ore., Anne Blackstone of Oakland, Calif., William Baird (Theresa) Blackstone of Twassassen, B.C., and Robert (Randee) Blackstone of Seattle; Deb’s mother, Dorothy Pierson, and her brother, Tim (Lori) Pierson, and sister Pat (Geno) Schlieve, all of the Waukesha area; as well many nieces, nephews, extended family, colleagues, and students.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service was held at First Congregation United Church of Christ in Rhinelander.
