Alfred L. Harvestine

Alfred L. Harvestine, 87, of New Lisbon, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston. He was born in Big Bend on Sept. 18, 1916, to Ferd and Mabel (nee Preston) Harvestine. On Aug. 21, 1937, he was united in marriage to Anna C. Redel in Big Bend. Following their marriage they lived in Big Bend for 26 years.

He was employed for 22 years at Miller Brewing Co. in Milwaukee until his retirement in 1978. They moved to the township of Summit in 1978 and lived there until 1988 when they moved to Buckhorn Acres in rural New Lisbon. Alfred enjoyed polka music and playing the harmonica.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Anna Harvestine of New Lisbon; three sons, Arthur (Carol) Harvestine of Nekoosa, James (Lydia) Harvestine of Portage and Steven (Mary) Harvestine of Endeavor; six grandchildren, Joseph (Dee) Harvestine, Brian (Laura) Harvestine, Steven Harvestine Jr., Anna Harvestine, Robert Harvestine and Scott Hauenstein; eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Harvestine; a brother, Louie; and three sisters, Leona Schultz, Iva Young and Lula Plitz.

Funeral services for Alfred Harvestine will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Thompson Funeral Home, 402 Center St., Wonewoc. The Rev. Laverne Ulrichsen will officiate. Friends may call on Monday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Potter’s Cemetery in Summit township.
