David W. Gottfried Sr.

David W. Gottfried Sr., 56, of New Berlin, died unexpectedly Monday evening, Dec. 8, 2003, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

David was born May 7, 1947, in Waukesha, the son of Fred and Doris (nee Bartelt) Gottfried. He graduated from New Berlin West High School Class of 1965 and went on to graduate magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

David was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1970 to 1972, stationed in Germany. He was an avid Harley-Davidson rider.

Survivors include his mother, Doris Scarce of New Berlin; his three children, Christine (Christopher) Kniech of Oconomowoc, David Gottfried Jr. (fiancee Sheri nee Oldenburg Wilde) of Waukesha and Richard Gottfried of Waterford; his companion, Sharon Schult of Waukesha; and a brother, Mark (Janice) Scarce of Oak Creek. He is further survived by an aunt, Ruby Scarce of Waukesha, and nieces and nephews, Cassandra, Christopher, Nicole and Rebecca Scarce, Margie Torres, Mollie Scarce and Bill Scarce.

He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Gino Scarce, and "Dad Gene Scarce."

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Rudolph-Larsen Bros. Waukesha Funeral Home, 500 N. East Ave., Waukesha. Interment with military rites will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in Prairie Home Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the time of the services Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in David’s name is being established.
