E. Dee Hanke
GURNEE, Ill. - E. Dee Hanke, 74, of Heather Ridge in Gurnee, Ill., passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Lake Forest Hospital. She was born April 6, 1928, in Janesville, the daughter of Archie and Esther Cunningham. She was a graduate of Carroll College in Waukesha and served as a high school teacher in Oconto Falls. As her husband’s coaching career involved relocation, Dee lived in Fort Atkinson, Kenosha, Lake Forest and Elmhurst, Ill. She lived in Gurnee for the past 12 years and was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish. She played on several golf leagues at Heather Ridge and several tennis leagues in Libertyville. Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Al Hanke, a former coach at Lake Forest College; two sons, Michael Hanke of Palatine, Ill., and Guy Hanke of Elmhurst; her sisters, Jean Cullen and Carol Vetta; and her brothers, David and James Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bob, and her sisters, Margaret and Corrine. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Janesville. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her memory to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
