Richard Sadenwasser
BARNES - Richard "Sade" Sadenwasser, 67, of Barnes, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at his home surrounded by his family. Richard was born Feb. 8, 1935, in Palmyra, the son of Harold and Helen (nee Benedict) Sadenwasser. He graduated from Palmyra High School and then joined the U.S. Marines, serving from 1954 to 1956. He married the former Mary Spiegelhoff on June 28, 1958, at St. Mary’s Church in Palmyra. He and Mary owned and operated Mary’s family’s tavern and restaurant, Sadie’s, for more than 35 years. Richard was a fireman, emergency medical technician and captain of the rescue squad for the Palmyra Fire Department for many years. Richard and Mary retired in 1993 to Barnes, where the family had vacationed for many years. Known affectionately to his grandchildren as "Gramps," Richard was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, and was particularly fond of football, hunting, fishing, golfing and trap shooting. He was a member of the Barnes Veterans of Foreign Wars and was formerly active in the Wisconsin Tavern League as well as the Lions and Kiwanis. He especially loved his dog, Kelly-Boy. Richard is survived by his wife, Mary of Barnes; one son, Stan (Tracy) Sadenwasser of South Range; one daughter, Anne Sadenwasser of Beaver Dam; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Priscilla (Norman) Sorenson of Ocala, Fla., and Mary (Thomas) Makovich of Ixonia; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jerald; and a daughter, Sue. The funeral service for Richard will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Palmyra. Visitation will be held at the church two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Palmyra. A memorial service will be held in Hayward in early January at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The time and date will be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or toward Masses. Mealy’s Funeral Home in Palmyra/Eagle, 594-2442, is serving the family.
