Betty Mae Brown
MUKWONAGO - Betty Mae Brown of Mukwonago passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 79. She was born May 1, 1923, in Whitewater, the daughter of Austin and Anna (nee Floerke) Johnson. Betty grew up in Whitewater and was a graduate of Whitewater High School. On Aug. 28, 1943, she married Clarence A. Brown in Whitewater, and in 1948 they moved to Mukwonago. Betty was a former member of the Women’s Firemen’s Auxiliary, the Royal Neighbors and the American Legion Auxiliary, all in Mukwonago. She was also a past member of Vernon Evangelical Lutheran Church. Betty was a homemaker and was very devoted to her family. A high point in her life was spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a friend to all who were privileged to know her. Betty had diabetes for many years and especially struggled with complications of diabetes this past year, but met them with tremendous inner strength. Survivors include her three loving sons, David C. (Janis) of Mukwonago, James S. of Mukwonago and Dr. Bruce A. (Kathy) of Waukesha; her dearest grandchildren, Sandra K. (Jedd) Miller, Jessica E. and Sarah N. Brown; her two dear sisters, Shirley (Raymond) Storck and Audrey (Malcolm) McLay, both of Whitewater; her dear brother, Royce (Georgette) Johnson of Appleton; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence A. "Doc" Brown; and a brother, Robert Johnson. Betty’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to the nurses and staff at Virginia Health and Rehabilitation Center and Waukesha Memorial Hospital for their kind and loving care of Betty. Family services were held at Schmidt & Bartelt-Van Valin Funeral Home in Mukwonago. Interment was held at Hillside Cemetery in Whitewater. Memorial donations given to the family will be used to support the American Diabetes Association. Schmidt & Bartelt-Van Valin Funeral Home in Mukwonago, 363-7126, assisted the family with arrangements.
