Barbara S. Forrest

WAUKESHA - Longtime Waukesha resident Barbara S. Forrest died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at age 70. She was born July 12, 1931, in Milwaukee, the daughter of John and Jo (nee Doring) Swift.

Barbara was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Waukesha. She retired from Husco International in 1995 after 22 years of service. In her retirement, Barbara became a gifted and avid quilter and belonged to such groups as Wisconsin Quilters, Quilt Sitters, Thimbleberries Club and Shortcut Sundays. Barbara shared her talent by donating quilts to local nonprofit organizations for fund-raisers. These groups included Interfaith Caregiving Network, The Caring Place and Cooperating Congregations of Waukesha County. In addition, she had donated numerous quilts to residents of nursing homes, premature and sick infants in hospitals and children in Kosovo. She made friends worldwide through her gift of quilting, and her gift has given so much to many people.

Barbara is the dear mother of John (Melinda Benjamin) Forrest of Minneapolis, Charles (Peggy) Forrest of Dodgeville, Betsy (John) Crosswaite of Waukesha and David (Julie) Forrest of East Troy. She is the sister of Mary Jo (Bud) Kortier of Fort Myers, Fla., and the grandmother of Steven, Michael, Matthew, Claire, Kelsey, Emily, Jeremey and Jason. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wolfe of York, Pa., as well as other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John "Woody" Forrest; and her brother-in-law, Hugh Wolfe.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Waukesha; the Rev. Dr. Douglas Sparks will officiate. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. service Saturday at the church.

Memorials to St. Matthias Episcopal Church or the John & Barbara Forrest Scholarship Fund of the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha (account 3050-0358), would be appreciated.
