FISHER, Pa. - Thomas E. Andes, 70, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at his residence in Fisher, Pa., following a battle with cancer. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Jan. 23, 1931, the youngest child of the late Anna and Harry Andes. Upon graduating from James M. Coughlin High School in 1948, Mr. Andes enlisted in the U.S. Navy, served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. In 1953 he entered St. Peters College in Jersey City, N.J., and graduated in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He entered service with the Office of Naval Intelligence in New York 1958 and quickly rose to be department chief with the ONI in Washington, D.C., before being transferred to Milwaukee as a senior resident agent. Following his retirement from the ONI in 1968, Thomas went into business as a stockbroker and commodities futures broker until his retirement in 1990. He drove school buses in Milwaukee for eight years and drove for the Clarion County Transportation Department. Mr. Andes was a very active member of the Toastmasters Club for several years and was an avid reader. In 1980 he was united in marriage to the former Anne Moersfelder Maternowski; she survives him. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Kathleen) Wojs of Muskego, Eileen Andes of Moose, Wyo., and Mrs. Mark (Mary) Janke of Waukesha; four sons, Thomas E. Jr. (Valerie) Andes of Random Lake, Michael (Nancy) Andes and John (Victoria) Andes, all of Waukesha, and Keith Andes of Green Bay; 10 grandchildren, Thomas E. Andes III, Timothy Wojs, Ryan Wojs, Heather Hinkes, Zachary Andes, Alexandra Andes, Alexander Andes, Angela Andes, Allison Andes and Sarah Janke. He is also survived by three brothers, Robert (Marge) Andes of Houston, Joseph Andes of Columbus, Ohio, and Harry Andes of Melbourne, Fla.; one sister, Dora Keeney of Wilkes-Barre; two sisters-in-law, Laverne Andes of Shaeffer Town, Pa., and Rosemary Andes of Lodi, N.J.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is further survived by six stepchildren, Gregory (Kim) Maternowski of Canton, Ohio, Mrs. Jeffrey (Danette) Karls of Fisher, Phillip (Lynn) Maternowski of Celina, Texas, Paul Maternowski of Oconomowoc, Mrs. Jeffery (Andrea) Crotteau of Slinger and Mathias Maternowski of Waukesha; and 11 stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arthur and John Andes. Goble Funeral Homes in Pennsylvania, (814) 226-7730, assisted the family with arrangements.
