OCONOMOWOC - Josephine M. Czeskleba, 91, of Waukesha died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at her son’s home in Oconomowoc. She was born May 29, 1909, in Fort Atkinson to Fred and Luella Dieckhoff. She was a graduate of Fort Atkinson High School, class of 1927. Mrs. Czeskleba attended Beloit College and was a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, class of 1931. While at Lawrence University, she was a member of Delta Gamma, a national social sorority, the Sunset Players Drama Club and a the National Collegiate Players, a national honorary dramatic fraternity. Mrs. Czeskleba taught at various schools around the state including schools in Waupaca, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Beaver Dam, Whitefish Bay, Ripon and Waukesha. She taught for 31 years, including 20 years in Waukesha. She was past president of the Waukesha Teachers Association, past president of the Eta chapter of Delta and past president of Kappa Gamma, an honorary international society of teachers. After her retirement in 1973, she was a civil service examiner for the federal government for eight years. She was also a member of the Waukesha County Retired Teachers Association. She was very active in the Waukesha community with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.), Meals on Wheels and through jury duty. She was the elections clerk at the sixth ward polls for 10 years, a member of the work staff for the Waukesha sesquicentennial, a volunteer at Avalon Manor and past president of the Friends of the Waukesha Library. She will be sadly missed by her two sons, William (Chris) Czeskleba of Oconomowoc and Dr. Robert (Lou) Grayson of Eau Claire. She is further survived by two grandsons, Nate and Kit Grayson, both of Eau Claire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Czeskleba, and sister, Ruth McCarty. According to Mrs. Czeskleba’s wishes, there will be no services.
