WAUKESHA - Ernst H. Schaefer, born Jan. 21, 1932, the son of Ernest and Grace Schaefer, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at the age of 68. He graduated from Waukesha High School where he was a class officer and multiple athletic letter winner. He attended Carroll College. He was a B-52 crew member in the Air Force. He retired as a major in 1971 after 20 years of service. He was an avid golfer with six hole-in-ones and represented the Air Force in many golf tournaments worldwide. He owned Ernie’s Golf Shop and was a Waukesha businessman for many years. He was a member of The Waukesha Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joyce (Jim) Rizzo; and his sister-in-law, Carol Schaefer. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Suzanne, whom he married on Aug. 3, 1957; his children, Lee Ann (David) Overman of Stillwater, Minn., Thomas (Maribeth) Schaefer of Waukesha, Barbara (Khristopher) Kleiner of Oconomowoc, Kim Schaefer of Sumter, S.C., Dawn (William) Hinzey of Delafield and Robert (Annie) Schaefer of Pewaukee; his brothers and sisters, Rocky Schaefer and La Mont (Lu Ann) Schaefer, both of Waukesha, Marian (Tom) Foster of Sumter, S.C., Jeannie (Lonnie) Nowak of Long Lake, Judy (Bill) Holland of Waukesha and Shirley (Herb) Schultz of Pembine; and his grandchildren, Maggie and Abbie Overman, Caitlin, Danica and Kierrin Schaefer and Mary, David and Katie Hinzey. He will also be missed by many friends and relatives. Funeral services for Ernie will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. William’s Catholic Church on Moreland Boulevard in Waukesha; Pastor John Nehs will officiate. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the 1:30 p.m. procession to the church for the services. Entombment will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Please send memorial donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Association and The American Cancer Association.
