BIG BEND - James E. Challis, of Big Bend, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at Woodland Health Care Center in Brookfield at the age of 79. He was born in Millwaukee on Aug. 19, 1921, the son of Arthur and Pearl (nee Wandsnider) Challis.

James was a dairy farmer and a member of First United Presbyterian Church of Vernon.

He is survived by his brother, Kenneth (Marie) Challis of Big Bend and his niece, Karen (Thomas Marcussen) Challis of Oak Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at Schmidt & Bartelt-Van Valin Funeral Home, 315 Main St., Mukwonago. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Roger Patton officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.
