Rev. David F. Wilbur, 89

Rev. David F. Wilbur of Wauwatosa, formerly of West Bend, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at St. Camillus Health Care Center, Wauwatosa, at the age of 89.

He was born July 16, 1910, in Janesville, to the late Albert and Mary Josephine (Schmidley) Wilbur.

He studied at the St. Francis Seminary, Milwaukee, before being ordained June 6, 1936, by the archbishop.

Fr. David served as the associate pastor at Immaculate Conception Parish, Milwaukee, and also was on the St. Francis Seminary faculty.

He served as pastor at St. Patrick's in Beaver Dam, St. Agnes in Butler, St. Rose in Fredonia with the mission parish and Mother of Sorrows in Little Kohler.

He was the priest in residence at St. Nicholas Parish, Decada.

Fr. David was also the chaplain at Eternal Word Monastery in Birmingham, Ala., and at Eternal Word Community in Rome, Italy.

Survivors include a sister, Ruth Katting of Wauwatosa; a brother, Paul of West Allis; a sister-in-law, Mary Angela Barker of Vero Beach, Fla., and his long-time secretary and caregiver, Bernice Haase of West Bend. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were three sisters, Emily Bryant, Roberta Wilbur and Mary Jo Barker, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Wilbur.

A concelebrated mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, West Bend. His Excellency the Most Reverend Archbishop Rembert G. Weakland O.S.B. will be the principal celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Janesville.

Visitation at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., with an evening prayer at 7 p.m., and also Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.
