Vincent Schmitt, 78

Vincent Schmitt, 78, of Campbellsport, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du Lac.

He was born Aug. 16, 1921, in St. Kilian, to the late Joseph and Josephine (nee Strobel) Schmitt, and married Bernice Hall on June 17, 1944, at St. Martin’s Church Ashford.

Vincent was the owner of Schmitt Construction and Vincent’s Monuments.

He was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Knights for over 50 years. was past secretary-president of the Wisconsin Cemetery Association and the president-sexton of St. Martin’s Cemetery Association.

Vincent served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the American Legion Post 347, the VFW Post 839 and an honorary member of the Ashford Sportsmen Club.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Richard and Kenneth (Donna), both of Campbellsport, David (Faye) of Brownsville and Donald, at home; three daughters, Cecilia (Ken) Knoll of Mayville, Dolores (Charles) Straub of Kewaskum and Eileen Schmitt of Kewaskum; six grandchildren, Michelle Perko, Kevin, Samantha and Michael Knoll, Chad Schmitt and Brian Schmitt; two step-granddaughters, Kari (Mike) Thompson) and Cheryl Kapfenstein; a brother, James (Marion) of Bettendorf, Iowa; a sister, Mary (Terry) Urban of Campbellsport; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were two brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Dec. 23, at 7 p.m. at St. Martin’s Church, Ashford. Rev. Wayne Barta will officiate, and burial will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Martin’s Cemetery.

Visitation at the church only will be Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of services.
