Ann Gonring

Ann Gonring, nee Wittkowske, 87, of Big Cedar Lake, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at the Samaritan Health Center of West Bend.

She was born on Sept. 27, 1917 in Milwaukee to the late Bernard and Clara (nee Gunkel) Witt-kowske and was united in marriage to Walter Gonring on July 23, 1946 at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Nabob.

Together they owned and operated Gonring’s Resort on Big Cedar Lake until retiring in 1968.

They spent winters at their home in Venice, Fla. until Walter’s death in 1983.

Ann later helped out at the House of Heileman on Big Cedar Lake, which her daughter owns.

Ann was a longtime member of the West Bend Country Club. An excellent golfer, she participated in many golf tournaments at West Bend and other country clubs. She also enjoyed playing cards and traveling.

Survivors include two daughters; Mary Ann (Jon) Stuver of Niles, Mich. and Suzanne (John) Gonring-Gundrum of Big Cedar Lake; five grandchildren, Matt (Angie) Stuver, TJ Stuver, Tracy (Tim) Oestreich, Kelli Duehning and Ryan Voels; five great-grandchildren, Bennett, Evan, Tyler, Taylor and Kyla; a sister, Lizetta Posler of Greenfield; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by seven sisters and brothers, along with her special friend, Walt Hancox.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, West Bend. Close friend Andy Doyle will officiate.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until the time of service.

Memorials to the Washington County Historical Society or the Washington County Humane Society are appreciated by the family.
