Norton O. "Nort" Risse

Norton O. "Nort" Risse, of Slinger, entered eternal peace on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at Cedar Lake Health Care Center at the age of 82 years.

Nort was born on Dec. 14, 1922 in Silver Creek to the late Charles and Irene (nee Moths) Risse. He married Caroline (nee Gerner) on July 17, 1948 at Community Church in Waubeka. The couple moved to Slinger in April of 1962 to open Risse’s Meat Market. Norton was a dedicated bus driver for Konrath Bus Service and also bagged groceries at Hansen’s Piggly Wiggly in Slinger. His favorite pastimes were dancing, horseshoes, woodworking, and spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Nort served the Silver Creek Fire Department, Random Lake Fire Department, assistant chief of the Waubeka Fire Department, and Fire Chief of the Slinger Fire Department for eight years. He retired from the Slinger Fire Department and was able to celebrate 50 years of honorable dedication to volunteering his love, time, and energy to fire service. He was a member of the Washington County Chief Association, the Badger Fireman’s Association, and the Slinger Advancement Association.

Survivors of Norton include his beloved wife, Caroline (nee Gerner) Risse; his three dear sons, Terry (Rachel) Risse of Elkhart Lake, Scott (Sue) Risse of Slinger, and Keith (Mary) Risse of Sheboygan; his cherished grandchildren, Troy, Ryan, Jill, Shana, Megan, Jess, Charlie and Jake Risse; one brother, Lee Risse of Alaska; one sister, Mabel Cary of Alaska; and siblings-in-law, Edwin Hammen, Enola Gerner, Willard (Sylvia) Gerner, Beulah Leisoring and Winifred Gerner. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Norton is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard Risse; one sister, Emily Hammen; one sister-in-law; and one brother-in-law.

A Funeral Service in honor of Norton was held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at 4 p.m. at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend, with Rev. John J. Tschudy officiating. Interment will take place at Silver Creek Cemetery on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at 2 p.m. The hours of visitation with the Risse Family were held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are appreciated, in lieu of flowers to either St. John’s United Church of Christ or to the Slinger Fire Department.

The Phillip Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family.

The Risse Family would like to extend their immense appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Luke’s Medical Center of Milwaukee, St. Joseph’s Community Hospital and Cedar Community of West Bend, and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, for the gracious care, support and assistance that was offered to Norton.
