Sylvester J. Weis Sylvester J. Weis of the town of Polk passed away on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 at his residence. He was 84 years old. He was born on Feb. 6, 1919 in the town of Barton to the late Frank and Emma (nee Neuy) Weis. He married Dolores Schaefer on Oct. 6, 1945 at St. Kilian Catholic Church in Hartford. Sylvester grew up in Allenton and attended Sacred Heart grade school He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Allenton and their Holy Name Society. He served his country in the U.S. Army. After serving in North Africa and Italy, he was honorably discharged as a staff sargeant in 1945. He was employed at Gehl Mfg. Company in West Bend for many years, retiring in 1982. In 1990 he and his wife moved to Richfield and joined St. Columba (St. Gabriel) Catholic Church. He enjoyed wood crafting and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolores; two daughters, Sharon (Herb) Lofy of Richfield and Kathy (Richard) Schmidt of Oshkosh; a son, Ron Weis of Richfield; six grandchildren, Christa, John (Michelle) and Karen Lofy, Tom (fiancˇ Carrie), Nathan (fiancˇ Jodie) and Jessica Schmidt; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Schmidt and Jeromy and Hallie Lofy; a brother, Richard (Adeline) Weis of West Bend; two sisters, Odelia Peters of West Bend and Loretta Heidmann of Cedarburg; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Betty) Schaefer of Iron Ridge and Elroy (Margie) Schaefer of Hartford; and a sister-in-law, Rita (Milton) Bunke of West Bend. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. Sylvester was preceded in death by his sister, Irene (Roland) Beck; and two brothers-in-law, Alois Peters and Rudy Heidmann. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at noon at St. Gabriel Parish (St. Columba Chapel) 106 Hwy 164, Colgate, with Father Charles Hanel officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Interment Sacred Heart Cemetery, Allenton. Memorials to St. Gabriel Building Fund or the American Cancer Society appreciated. Shimon Funeral Home is assisting the family.
