Jeanette M. (nee Hetzel) Rettler

Jeanette M. (nee Hetzel) Rettler, 71, of Dallas, Ore., found peace with God on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was at home surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

Jeanette was born on Aug. 28, 1932 to the late Anton and Julia (nee Mason) Hetzel in Rubicon, where she lived on the family farm and attended school.

She married Joseph P. Rettler on April 24, 1954 in Rubicon, and the couple had three children.

They lived in West Bend, where she worked for the West Bend Aluminum Co. for 22 years.

In 1972, she moved with her husband and family to Dallas, Ore.

She was employed for many years at Family Federal Savings and Loan and Washington Federal Savings and Loan until her retirement in 1996.

She was an aide at Child’s World Preschool and the Dallas School District until 2003.

Jeanette was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church.

She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed gardening. She found great pleasure in going for motorcycle rides with her son.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph; a son, Gary (Petey) Rettler of Dallas, Ore.; daughters, Cynthia Rettler of Corvallis, Ore. and Wanda (Brent) Foster of Dallas, Ore.; grandchildren Karly and Emma Foster, Brittney Rettler, and Amanda and Alexander Chambers; a sister, Sister Francis Xavier of Milwaukee.

Preceding her in death were a sister and three brothers.

Recitation of the Rosary was held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 26 at St. Philip Catholic Church in Dallas, Ore., followed by a funeral Mass celebrating her life and enduring faith at 10 a.m.

Visitation was held prior to Mass from 8:50 to 10 a.m. at the church. Burial services followed immediately at the Dallas Cemetery.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Polk County Relay for Life in care of Bollman Funeral Home which is handing arrangements.
