Suzanne Charlotte Cordes

Suzanne Charlotte Cordes, 72, nee Berdinner, of Wausaukee, passed away at Rennes Health Center in Peshtigo on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003.

She was born on Aug. 15, 1931 in Racine to the late Edward J. and Cora (Hermes) Berdinner.

Sue graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine in 1949 and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She was a member of the Wisconsin Mathematics Council.

She worked for the Hartford School District, retiring in June of 1996 after 25 years of dedicated service teaching math.

While teaching, Sue also held the position of math curriculum chairman.

Prior to moving to Wausaukee she was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hartford.

Until her recent illness, Sue continued to commute monthly to Hartford to meet with the "Naomi Circle," a group she had been with since the 1960s.

Sue was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Marinette since 1997 where she was an active member of the "Priscilla Circle."

She was an officer of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in Hartford from 1990-1996, and was a very active member of the Marinette chapter from 1998 to the present.

Sue married Gerald Cordes in 1984 and was previously married to Howard Newton from 1951 to 1980.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Gerald; a son, Michael (Cindy) of Kings Mountain, N.C.; a daughter, Heather (Scott) Register of Bladenboro, N.C.; stepchildren, David (Elaine) Cordes, Donna (Glen Pietschmann) Page; grandchildren, Timothy, Michael and Jason Register, Joshua, Jacob, Joseph and Ashley Cordes, Wiley Page, Stacy (Jeremy) Skroch and Christopher Pietschmann, Anthony Cordes and Nathaniel Haunfelder; three great-grandchildren, Angelina Cordes, Simon and Jessie Skroch; a brother, James (Vivian) Berdinner of Loveland, Colo.; a nephew, Richard (Karen) Berdinner of Longmont, Colo.; and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service at 10:30 a.m. and fellowship until 1:30 p.m. will be held on Friday, Dec. 19 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Marinette, with Pastor Lee Goodwin officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
