Emma Hawkins

Emma Hawkins (nee Deis) of Hartford passed away on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at the Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 87 years old.

She was born on April 16, 1916 in Chicago to Alex and Sophia (nee Mueller) Deis. Emma married William Hawkins on Nov. 25, 1938 in Crown Point, Ind. She was a volunteer worker at St. Vincent de Paul in Hartford for over 20 years and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Neosho. Emma was an avid reader and loved to do crossword puzzles and spend time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two children, Robert (Marlene) Hawkins of Menomonee Falls and Patricia Miller (special friend, Gary) of Hartford; four grandchildren, David (Linda) Hawkins, Donald Miller, Jeffrey (Cyndi) Miller, and Tanya (Keith) Keller; seven great-grandchildren, Laura, Becky, Carly, Courtney, Ethan, Evan and Elliott; and two brothers, Albert Deis of Hartford and William (Betty) Deis of Sussex. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Emma was preceded in death by her husband, William; grandson Mark Hawkins; son-in-law Vernon Miller; her parents; four brothers, Charles, Alexander, Frederick and Carl Deis; and three sisters, Mary Deis, Anna Schalles and Edith Steilen.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at 7 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home, 824 Union St. (Hwy 83 N), Hartford, with Rev. David Meister officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
