Nona Rae "Nonie" Thums

Nona Rae "Nonie" Thums, nee Schuppel, 47, of Medford, passed away on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 at the Wausau Hospital, as the result of injuries suffered in an auto accident.

She was born on Feb. 23, 1956 at St. Joseph’s Community Hospital in West Bend, to Donald R. and Alyce E. (nee Crass) Schuppel, and attended Kewaskum and Slinger grade schools.

She began high school in Slinger, and in 1972 the family moved to the town of Greenwood where Nona was a 1974 graduate of Rib Lake High School.

She had been employed at Marathon Cheese and Weathershield Mfg., and at the time of her death was employed at Memorial Health Center in four different departments, cardiac rehab, OB, medical/surgical, and was also an EMT for the hospital as well as being a cardiac rehab specialist.

Nona Rae was a member of the Memorial Health Center Sunshine Club, Taylor County Ambulance and Memorial Health Center Cardiac Rehab team.

She enjoyed horseback riding, quilting, walking in the woods, collecting angels, reading, NASCAR and shooting pool.

She also loved her dogs, especially Puck, Cobuck, Jasmine and Sheeba.

Nona will always be remembered as a devoted mother.

Survivors include three sons, Matthew Jon Thums of Sheridan, Wyo., Gabriel Mark Thums and fiancee Christal Roberts of Sheridan, Wyo. and Luke Allen Peterson of Medford and special friend, Heidi Glamann of Medford; her parents, Donald R. "Digger" Schuppel of the town of Greenwood, and Alyce E. Schuppel of Medford; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Deborah Stephan of Neosho and Patti Jo (Robert M.) Lamberty of Whittlesey; aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and many friends.

She was also a very special friend to Chris and Dave Gengler, Lynn Peters and Sheila Wein.

Nona was preceded in death by her special friend, Dale Quirk; a brother, Glenn Paul Schuppel; paternal grandparents, John and Marie Schuppel Sr.; and maternal grandparents, Alma Kalmus and Wilmer Crass.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey.

Rev. Randal Jeppesen will officiate, and interment will be in Chelsea Community Cemetery.

Visitation at the church will be on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

Pallbearers are Statt Lemke, Codey Stephan, Jason Schuppel, Tom Lucia, Tim Ahlers, Dave Gengler, Ron Bohn and Ben Zenner. R.J. Duenkel is an honorary pallbearer.

The Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake are serving the family.
