Esther B. Gutermann

Esther B. Gutermann, nee Kowalske, 94, a resident of the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home and formerly of West Bend and the town of Jackson, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home.

She was born to the late Albert and Bertha (nee Gutzman) Kowalske on Sept. 4, 1909 in the town of Jackson, and was baptized on Sept. 19, 1909 at David’s Star Evangelical Lutheran Church in the town of Jackson.

She was later confirmed at David’s Star Evangelical Lutheran Church on March 25, 1923 with Colossians 2:6-7 as her confirmation verse.

Esther married Joseph Gutermann on Nov. 4, 1933 at David’s Star Evangelical Lutheran Church.

During her life she was a homemaker, and also worked for many years at the former Kiekhafer Corp., now Mercury Marine, in Cedarburg.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter, Walter (Donna) Gutermann of Jackson, Edwin (Stefanie) Gutermann of Brownsville, George (Yvonne) Gutermann and Mildred (Allen) Zarling, both of West Bend; 13 grandchildren, Renee Schwefel (special friend Ivan Thompson), Lyle (Ruth) Gutermann, Neal (Holly) Gutermann, Christ (Therese) Gutermann, Beth (Don) LaFreniere, Cindy (Jim) Koffman, Linda Knebel, Ricki (Lori) Gutermann, Lori (John) Knapp, Mark Gutermann, Ronda (Bruce) Koenig, Wayne Zarling (special friend Kat Jaeger), and Cheryl (Randy) Hofmaier; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her loving husband, Joseph, on Feb. 1, 1980, and two brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 605 Highland Ave., Brownsville.

Rev. William Carter will officiate, and burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, town of Jackson.

Visitation at the church only will be Tuesday from 4 to 6:45 p.m.

The family has requested that memorials be given to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brownsville, Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac or Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School in the town of Jackson.
