Oliver N. "Ollie" Kangas Oliver N. "Ollie" Kangas, 89, of Kenosha, died on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at Aurora Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 19, 1913, in Waukegan, Ill., to the late Nicholas and Maria (Salo) Kangas. He lived briefly in Waukegan and Massachusetts, and had been a resident of Kenosha since he was a young child. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Kenosha High School. Ollie married Anna Simaitis in Kenosha on Nov. 3, 1934. He enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard on June 25, 1947, and was honorably discharged on June 22, 1961. A Sergeant First Class, Ollie was attached to HQ Battery, 2nd Howitzer Battalion, 126th Artillery. He was employed for over 40 years at Nash/Kelvinator and American Motors Corporations, retiring in 1975 as a planning supervisor. He was also an auto salesman at the AMC dealership on Sheridan Road in Winthrop Harbor, Ill. for many years. Following retirement, Ollie worked as a longshoreman at the Kenosha docks. During the early 1930s he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was also a member of the AMC Supervisors Club, the AMC Golf League, and the Ke-Nash-A- Club. Ollie was an auto enthusiast and also enjoyed golfing and tending his vegetable gardens. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Oliver R. (Catherine) Kangas of California, Md. and John B. (Debra) Kangas of Jackson; four grandchildren, Michael E. Kangas and Linda Anne Manuel, both of California, Md., Joseph A. Kangas of Ridge, Md. and Kevin J. Kangas of Jackson; a great-granddaughter, Catherine M. Dixon of California, Md. Preceding him in death was a sister, Sylvia Prell. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28 at Bruch Funeral Home, Kenosha. Committal with full military veteran's honors will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, Somers. Visitation at the funeral home will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
