Leonard Albert Mayer Leonard Albert Mayer, 90, found eternal rest peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law. He was born on Dec. 10, 1912, in Junction City, to the late Christ and Clara (Keiling) Mayer, and on Oct. 28, 1950 he married Virginia Steuck in Dancy, Wis. She passed away on June 19, 1981. On Nov. 13, 1986 he married Alma Kalies. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2000. Leonard served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and upon discharge he worked in various businesses in the Fox Valley and Milwaukee areas. He owned and operated a farm in Ackerville, and in 1950 purchased and operated a farm in rural West Bend. Eventually he started his own business, Mayer's Auto Body, located on the same property. In 1982 he retired and sold the business to his son, Jack. Leonard was an industrious, creative and compassionate man. His greatest reward was the love of his family, and their love for him. He truly enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. Survivors include four children, Donna (Tom) Gustine of West Bend, Richard of Eden, Gail (Bob) Schroeder of West Bend and Jack (Diane) Mayer of West Bend; four grandsons, Matthew, Brian, Daniel and Steven Schroeder; a granddaughter, Heidi Thomas; a brother, Harvey (Phyllis) of Wisconsin Rapids; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Mayer, Blanche Buss, and Eileen Steuck; brothers-in-law, Herman (Butsie) Steuck and Andy Steuck; the family of Alma Mayer; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were three sisters, Frieda Bourcier, Margaret Olsen and Laura Bergstrom; a brother, Art Mayer; a granddaughter, Katie Thomas; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leo Bourcier, Thorwald Olsen, Leonard Bergstrom, Bud and Ruth Steuck, Mildred and Ken Brede, Roland and Rae Steuck, Ralph and Helen Steuck, Armin, Adeline and Margaret Steuck and Roland Buss. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. at Community Church, corner of Highway P and Paradise Drive, West Bend. Rev. Victor C. Hackbarth will officiate, and interment will be in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend. Visitation at the Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend, will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials are appreciated.
