Edward C. Walker
Edward C. Walker, 56, of Hartford, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital, Milwaukee. He was born on Sept. 19, 1946 in Morris, Ill., to Edward and Louise (nee Black) Walker, and married Diane Pritza on July 2, 1971 at the Disciples of Christ Church in Blue Island, Ill. Ed graduated from Morris Community High School in 1964, and served his country in the U.S. Navy, spending time in Vietnam. He returned to school following the service, graduating from Western Illinois University with a bachelor of science degree. He received his master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Ed had many interests. He taught at Hartford Union High School for 28 years as the agricultural instructor, was the FFA advisor and an honorary chapter farmer. Ed was also a newspaper columnist for the Hartford Times-Press for over 19 years, and became a syndicated writer for a number of papers. He was an excellent public speaker, speaking throughout the Midwest. Ed was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. He sang in choirs, taught Sunday School, was council president and helped anywhere he could. He was also actively involved in the Hartford-Nicaragua Partners organization, serving on the board. The time Ed treasured most was the time spent with his family, especially the many camping, biking, canoeing, and cross-country skiing trips. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Angela and Ericka; his mother, Louise Walker of Newark, Del.; a sister, Judy (Charles) Cox of Newark; other relatives and many friends. Preceding him in death was his father, Edward R. Walker. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Hartford, with Rev. Arv Arveson officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday at the church only from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., with a reception following the services. Memorials to the family to establish an agricultural scholarship fund in Ed's name are appreciated. The Shimon Funeral Home, Hartford, is assisting the family.
