Raymond J. "Ray" Schemenauer
Raymond J. "Ray" Schemenauer, 86, of West Bend, died on Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital. He was born on Aug. 27, 1916, in Hartford, to the late Nicholas and Susan (Schneider) Schemenauer, and graduated in 1936 from Messmer High School in Milwaukee. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. After his marriage to Alice Mary Garvens on June 20, 1945 in Milwaukee, the couple lived in the Milwaukee area. He was employed for various construction companies, including Debbink and J.P. Jansen, and also spent 11 years with Milwaukee County as a carpenter, retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church, West Bend, Carpenter's Union Local 264 of Milwaukee, and later West Bend Local, a VFW Post in Milwaukee and later West Bend Post 1393. Survivors include his wife; four children, Thomas (Peggy) of Gurnee, Ill., Janet (Mike) Zimmermann of Menomonee Falls, Allen of Milwaukee and Kent (Barbara) of Menomonee Falls; seven grandchildren, Michael and Zachary Zimmermann, Andrea, Derek, Jonathan, Crystal and Danny Schemenauer; a sister, Florance Callaway of Milwaukee; a brother, James (Joyce) of Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were many sisters and brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church. Father Michael C. Petersen will officiate, and cremation will take place at Paradise Cremation Services of West Bend. Visitation at the church only will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorials or Masses are appreciated. The Phillip Funeral Home, West Bend, is assisting the family.
