Matilda B. "Tillie" Laughlin

Matilda B. "Tillie" Laughlin, nee Bernard, 96, of West Bend, formerly of South Milwaukee, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at the Cedar Lake Health Care Center.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1905, in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Christian and Clara (nee Schallenbach) Bernard.

At a young age she moved to Milwaukee and worked as an accountant at Bucyrus Erie Corp. until 1930.

On June 28, 1930, she married Del Laughlin in South Milwaukee. They made their home in South Milwaukee and together owned and operated Laughlin Appliance Shop until Del's death in 1959.

Tillie continued to operate the appliance shop until retiring in 1973.

She moved to West Bend in 1986. She was a very active former member of First Congregational Church in South Milwaukee and a current member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Kohlsville.

Survivors include four children, Mary Ann (Charles) Taylor of Danville, Ill., Alice Aylesworth of Syracuse, N.Y., David (Vicki) Laughlin of White Bear Lake, Minn. and Grace (David) Holm of Moose Lake, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Bernard of Laguna Woods, Calif.

Preceding her in death were a sister, Margaret Durell; a brother, Frank; and a son-in-law, Arthur Aylesworth.

At Tillie's request, cremation will take place at Myrhum-Patten Funeral and Cremation Service, with the cremated remains to be buried in the First Congregational Church Cemetery, South Milwaukee.

A memorial service, to be announced at a later date, will be held at the Cedar Lake Campus.
