Mary K. Matenaer

Mary K. Matenaer, nee Staehler, 96, of West Bend, died on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at the Samaritan health Center.

She was born Jan. 29,1905, in Kewaskum, to the late John and Elizabeth (nee Rodenkirch) Staehler.

After her marriage to Edwin J. Matenaer on May 26, 1925, at Holy Trinity Church, Kewaskum, they settled on the Matenaer Homestead farm in the town of Barton.

Upon their retirement from farming in 1957, the couple settled in the former village of Barton.

Mary loved gardening, crocheting, knitting and cooking.

She was a member of the Apostolate of Suffering and the Christian Women's Confraternity.

Her husband passed away on Dec. 10, 1980.

Survivors include seven children, Leona (Allan) Batzler, Francis (Betty), Norman (Gene), Steve (Margaret), all of West Bend, Ralph (Estelle) of Kewaskum, Mary Yarnig of Menomonee Falls and Carol (Don) Winninghoff of Appleton; a son-in-law, Edward Volm of Kewaskum; 31 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Regina Staehler of Kewaskum; other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were a daughter, Adeline Volm; a son-in-law, Ray Yarnig; two sisters and five brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend.

Father Patrick Wendt will be the presider, and burial will be in St. Mary's (old) Cemetery.

Visitation at the church only will be Wednesday from 4 to 6:45 p.m.

The Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, is serving the family.

The family wishes to extend their grateful thanks to the staff on the third floor at the Samaritan Health Center for the loving and gentle care given to Mary.
