He was born on Sept. 30, 1914 to the late Fred and Adela (nee Eickstead) Rettmann and married the late Althea (nee Buch) on Oct. 25, 1936 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton.

Survivors include his children, John Rettmann of Hiles, Margaret (Gene) Jones of Jackson and Elsa (Reno) Dippmann of Cedarburg; and sister-in-law Martha Viesselmann of Barton. He is further survived by seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Dec. 22, 2001 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Grafton. Interment was at the church cemetery. Mueller Funeral Home, Cedarburg, assisted the family.
