Steven R. “Duke” Balon He was born to Andrew (Catherine Vozar) Balon on Jan. 21, 1912, and raised in Milwaukee and married Anna M. Filo on July 12, 1941, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend. After their marriage, the couple lived in Milwaukee where he worked at Allis-Chalmers of West Allis for more than 30 years, retiring in 1960. He loved hunting and fishing and was a past member of the National Rifle Association. His wife Anna died on April 8, 1999. He is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Richard) Krueger of West Bend; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Balon of West Bend; five grandchildren, Steve (Shelley) Krueger of West Bend, Kari Krueger (Gary Dettmann) of Cascade, Anthony (Annie Fielder) Balon of West Bend, Tina (Jeff) Mayer of the town of Farmington, Tracy Balon (Brian Heinonen) of West Bend; one great-granddaughter, Karly Krueger; special friend Bernice Luther of Jackson; and all the staff at Jackson Auto Service. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Robert; one brother, John; and two sisters, Kate and Anna. Funeral Services will be on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at 1:30 p.m. at Phillip Funeral Home Chapel of West Bend with Father Patrick Wendt officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery of Milwaukee at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2001.
