Walter Kohlwey

Funeral services were held on Dec. 19 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pardeeville for Walter Kohlwey, who died on Dec. 15, 2001 at the age of 90. Pastor Edward Lindemann officiated at the ceremony, with arrangements handled by Smith Funeral Home, Pardeeville. Burial was at the Pardeeville Cemetery.

Mr. Kohlway was born July 31, 1911, son of George and Anna (Behrens) Kohlwey. He married Dorthea Reiche in Milwaukee on Nov. 7, 1935. She preceded him in death on July 11, 1993.

He married Erna Hanke in Arlington on June 29, 1995.

He owned and operated Kohlwey Heating and Plumbing in Rio for 30 years. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Pardeeville where he served on the Water and Sewer Commission.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pardeeville where he held many offices.

Survivors include: sons Arvin (Roseann) Kohlwey of Bellflower, Calif., Ralph (Betty) Kohlwey of Fredonia, Terrance (Ruth) Kohlwey of Rio, Ernest (Ila) Kohlwey of Eagan, Minn., Joel (Jane) Kohlwey of Rio; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers Ruben (Evelyn) Kohlwey of Saukville, George (Shirley) Kohlwey of Saukville; sisters Anita Eulert of Cedarburg, Florence (Gerald) Rathke of Jackson, Renata (Kenneth) Rappold of Cedarburg.

Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son LeRoy; sisters Georgianna Rettmann, Eleonora Dobberfuhl and Esther Koeller; brother Benoit.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Mr. Kohlwey’s name to the Education fund at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
