Raymond J. Schmidt

Raymond J. Schmidt, 88, of West Bend, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at the Samaritan Health Center.

He was born Aug. 23, 1912, in the town of Trenton, to the late Joseph and Mary (nee Mrazik) Schmidt, and married Veronica Roden on June 26, 1935, at St.Michael's Catholic Church.

She passed away on Feb. 6, 1979.

He then married Frances E. (nee Fleischman) Brath on May 18, 1981, at our Lady of the Lakes in Branson, Mo.

Raymond was employed as a mechanic for West Bend Motors for about six years. He then worked as a salesman for West Bend Implement Co., selling farm machinery for more than 39 years.

He also served as a special deputy with the Washington County Sheriff's Department for 17 years.

Ray was a member of the Fr. Casper Rehrl Council 1964 Knights of Columbus, a charter member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and a member of the Young at Heart Club.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; two children, Richard of Naperville, Ill. and Kathleen (Don) Malzahn of Crandon; seven stepchildren, Rev. John Brath of Kimberling City, Mo., Janet (Robert) Melzer of St. Kilian, Donald (Dorothy) Brath of West Bend, Karl (Marilyn) Brath of Kohlsville, Karen (Harlu) Keller of Campbellsport, Kenneth Brath of Milwaukee and Allen (Jane) Brath of West Bend; four grandchildren, Noelle Schmidt of Madison, Brett Schmidt of Germany, Kurt (Sheri) Cornelius of West Bend and Kimberly Cornelius of Oshkosh; 18 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Joseph Roden of West Bend; and other relatives: Mike (Georgian) Brath of Campbellsport, Mary (Steve) Rahn of Kewaskum and Betty Jacak of West Bend. Ray is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were three sisters, Agnes Mayer, Helen Becker and Johanna Schmidt, and two brothers, Henry and Alvin.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 10 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home, West Bend, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.

Fr. John Brath will be the celebrant with Fr. Jeffrey Haines concelebrating. Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 p.m. until a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m., and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
