M. "Tootie" O’Keane (nee Olinger) of West Bend, formerly
of Slinger, died Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the Samaritan Health Center of West
Bend at the age of 95.
She was born to Peter (Mary Winkler) Olinger on May 8, 1905, in Milwaukee and married John R. O’Keane on July 12, 1927, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church of Milwaukee. She was raised in Milwaukee and after marriage, the couple lived in the Milwaukee area. She was very active with the Catholic Church community and the Franciscan Sisters. Tootie was a foster mother for 18 children in the Milwaukee and surrounding areas. She was a member of St. Columbia Catholic Church of the town of Richfield. She is survived by one daughter, Mary T. Kearns of Oak Harbor, Wash.; four grandchildren, Kevin Kearns of Oak Harbor, Wash., Colleen (Kerry) Nutter of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Kerry Kearns of Milwaukee and Kelly Kearns of West Bend; further survived by nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on May 27, 1991; one sister and two brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at St. Columbia Catholic Church of the town of Richfield with Father Charles Hanel officiating. Interment will take place at St. Columbia Catholic Cemetery on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Visitation will be at the church only from 4 p.m. until the time of Mass on Monday.
